At appointed times, God moves ordinary people to extraordinary tasks.
He also provides the tools that an appointed generation needs to finish those tasks.
Five hundred years ago, Johannes Gutenberg’s printing press began the era of mass communication and propelled the Reformation. The Gutenberg Bible was printed in Latin, the language of clergy and academics. But the following generations would see ordinary people across Europe gain access to printed Scripture in their heart languages.
Today, we are living through one of the greatest periods of rapid acceleration in history. Our generation possesses technology and faster access to the entire globe than Gutenberg ever could have imagined.
The Bible again stands at the center of a revolution.
Today, at a pace the world has never seen, God’s Word is reaching and transforming people, communities, even whole nations. Leading Bible translation agencies are unifying their efforts and riding the technological revolution. The global Church stands on the verge of bringing Scripture to every nation, tribe, people and language on Earth.
We envision a day very soon when every people group on Earth has access to at least some Scripture. We envision 99.9 percent of the world’s population with a New Testament, and 95 percent with the full Bible. Best of all, we imagine all of this Scripture reaching people in their heart languages — and in various forms according to their needs.
For many of the world’s remaining Bibleless people, this first means oral Bible stories, the “JESUS” film or audio recordings. It means translation for the world’s 400 sign languages — none of which have a complete Bible yet. And of course it means printed Scripture for the millions who have been waiting.
That’s what illumiNations is about. We get to stand on the shoulders of spiritual giants — generations whose faithful work carried God’s Word to the corners of the Earth.
Now, we get to finish the task.
Are you ready to join a revolution that impacts eternity?
